Bitcoin Drops Below $81,000 as Crypto and U.S. Stocks Sell Off
Bitcoin briefly moved above $80,000 on Oct. 8, while Ether, XRP and Solana posted steeper losses amid falling U.S. stocks and rising oil prices.

Bitcoin (BTC) fell below $81,000 Thursday as a broader selloff hit cryptocurrencies and U.S. stocks, weighing on expectations for an October market rally.
Bitcoin traded near $81,362 after briefly moving just above $80,000. Intraday lows ranged from $80,941.40 to $82,228 on Oct. 8, reflecting differences among exchanges and pricing records.
Ether (ETH) and XRP each fell about 6% over 24 hours, while Solana declined 9%. The losses extended across digital assets as traders reassessed October’s traditionally bullish seasonal pattern.
U.S. equities also weakened. At 12:48 p.m. ET (4:48 p.m. UTC), the S&P 500 was down 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite had fallen 0.9%. Brent crude rose 3.8% to $104.08 as technology shares weakened and oil prices climbed.
The market move came nearly a year after the Oct. 10, 2025 crypto flash crash.
