Bitcoin Trades Below Short-Term Averages as Momentum Stays Mixed

Bitcoin was at $82,542 early Oct. 9, below four short-term averages but above its 50-day and 200-day measures.

Bitcoin (BTC) traded at $82,542 at 3:06 a.m. ET (07:06 UTC) on Oct. 9, down 0.34% over 24 hours, as the token stayed below four short-term trend measures while holding above longer-term averages.

Bitcoin remained below its seven-day simple moving average at $84,317, its 20-day average at $84,311, its 12-day exponential moving average at $83,776 and its 26-day exponential moving average at $82,642.

The price was above the 50-day average at $80,736 and the 200-day average at $71,893. Bitcoin’s Binance spot range was $80,394 to $83,283, while its daily average true range stood at $1,949.

The Bollinger Bands placed the lower band at $81,476, the middle band at $84,311 and the upper band at $87,146. These levels put the current price between the lower band and the middle band.

Positioning on Binance leaned long. The global-account long/short ratio was 1.8161 at 2 a.m. ET (06:00 UTC), with 64.5% of accounts holding long positions and 35.5% holding short positions. Among top-trader accounts, the ratio was 1.8769, with 65.2% long and 34.8% short.

The taker buy/sell ratio was 1.3763, based on 2,692 buy-side contracts and 1,956 sell-side contracts during the observed one-hour period. The eight-hour funding rate was 0.0018% at 8 p.m. ET on Oct. 8 (00:00 UTC on Oct. 9).

The nearest support levels were $80,863 and $79,183. Resistance was identified at $83,752 and $84,963. Bitcoin also remained below the approximate volume-weighted cost basis of the 2025 buyer cohort, a level near $88,000.
