Crypto Market Cap Falls 2.59% As Bitcoin Gains 1.03%

Bitcoin reached $83,066 while Ether and other major tokens declined. Leveraged-position liquidations totaled $682 million over 24 hours.

Bitcoin gained while the broader crypto market weakened Oct. 9, with total market value falling to $2.81 trillion as leveraged positions faced $682 million in liquidations over 24 hours.

Bitcoin (BTC) traded at $83,066 at 9:03 a.m. ET (13:03 UTC), up 1.03% from 24 hours earlier. Marketwide trading volume reached $113.61 billion, and Bitcoin represented 59.2% of total crypto market value.

Ether (ETH) accounted for 10.8% of the market and declined 1.13% to $2,499. XRP slipped 0.14% to $1.39, while BNB fell 2.17% to $742.21. Solana (SOL) dropped 1.13% to $110.60, and Dogecoin (DOGE) declined 2.20% to $0.0848.

Polkadot (DOT) led the top 39 cryptocurrencies with a 7.45% gain. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) was the weakest performer, falling 6.22%.

Derivatives exchanges recorded $682.0 million in liquidations during the period. Long positions accounted for $559.3 million, compared with $122.7 million for short positions.

Long liquidations exceeded short liquidations by $436.6 million, highlighting the heavier impact on traders positioned for further price gains. The move followed an earlier market decline in which crypto market capitalization fell 3.80% as liquidations reached $740.7 million.
