Coherent gained more than 5% as the Dow, Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 opened higher Friday.
Lumentum shares rose more than 7% at the U.S. market open Friday, while Coherent gained more than 5% as optical communications stocks rose.
At 9:31 a.m. ET (13:31 UTC), the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.15%, the Nasdaq Composite had gained 0.55% and the S&P 500 was 0.28% higher.
The three major U.S. stock indexes opened higher as optical communications shares also advanced.
