The Houthi movement’s claimed strikes on Saudi airports have disrupted aviation and heightened regional-risk concerns for oil markets and broader risk assets, including crypto.

The attacks targeted Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and other critical infrastructure, causing operational disruptions and casualties. An attack at the Riyadh airport on Oct. 10 killed 13 people and wounded more than 300.

The escalation has increased concern that Saudi Arabia could close its airspace as security threats persist. Any extended disruption to air travel or critical infrastructure would add pressure to the kingdom’s operating costs and economic resilience.

Oil markets are also watching for further developments because the attacks affected critical infrastructure and could intensify regional instability. In crypto markets, the episode adds to broader geopolitical risk at a time when investors are monitoring possible spillover into other risk assets.

Further Houthi-related escalation, a de-escalation involving the movement and Iran, and announcements from Saudi aviation authorities will determine whether the disruptions widen.
