An ETF IQ panel on Oct. 12 examined how fund providers are developing narrowly focused themes, from large language model products to professional sports indexes and private credit.

Hosted by Eric Balchunas, the discussion brought together executives from across the ETF industry to examine the direction of thematic investing. Global X’s CEO highlighted the rise of smaller, specialized themes, including ETFs connected to large language models.

Future Sports’ Jodi Gunzberg discussed indexes tracking Major League Baseball and National Hockey League themes. The panel also addressed private credit and the broader development of thematic exchange-traded funds.

Defiance CEO Matt Beilski added a personal perspective by discussing his son’s autism during the event. His remarks formed part of a wider conversation about how specialized themes are being developed for ETF investors.

The discussion reflected the expanding range of ETF strategies focused on specific sectors and technologies, as providers continue to explore more narrowly defined investment categories.
