Bitcoin Long-Term Holders Keep 72% Unrealized-Profit Buffer
The group’s average cost basis is $48,600, and it has remained profitable since January 2023.

Bitcoin (BTC) long-term holders continue to maintain a 72% unrealized-profit buffer, with their average cost basis at $48,600 and the market price about 72% above that level.
The group has remained profitable since January 2023. Its most recent move toward the break-even level came in March 2023, leaving long-term holders with a sustained cushion despite recent declines in their average cost basis.
The measure reached a peak of $49,500 on July 30 and has since dropped 1.7%. The trend extends TokenPost’s earlier coverage of Bitcoin’s long-term holder basis, which also tracked the gap between holder cost levels and the market price.
Since Aug. 1, 60 of 74 days have recorded a negative weekly change in the average cost basis. The largest weekly decline was 0.34% on Aug. 25, while the latest reading showed a decline of 0.06%.
The recent decrease remains limited. A further decline would indicate that long-term holders are selling at a faster pace, while a return to positive territory would indicate renewed accumulation.
For now, the $48,600 average cost basis remains well below Bitcoin’s market price, preserving the group’s positive unrealized-profit position.
