Saudi Coalition Intercepts Two Houthi Missiles Near Khamis Mushait
The interceptions came as renewed fighting raised concerns about security around the Bab el-Mandeb, a key Red Sea shipping chokepoint.

Saudi Arabia’s Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles headed toward Khamis Mushait, raising fresh concerns about security near critical Red Sea energy routes.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said the missiles were launched by Yemen’s Houthi group. The coalition also said it intercepted and destroyed another ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh earlier Monday.
The announcement came Tuesday, Oct. 13, after deadly attacks at Riyadh’s international airport. The latest missile activity adds to concerns about further pressure on Saudi security and shipping routes through the region.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, at the southern end of the Red Sea, is a major chokepoint for vessels traveling between the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Disruptions there can force longer routes for crude tankers and increase concern about energy-market supply risks.
