The altcoin market has recovered from last month’s low, but the altcoin season index remains in neutral territory, leaving broader expansion signals limited.

As of Oct. 13, the altcoin season index stood at 56.

The index fell from 61 a day earlier and 62 a week earlier, while improving from 41 a month ago. It remains between Bitcoin season at 25 or below and altcoin season at 75 or above, suggesting the market is still in a phase where the performance gap between Bitcoin and altcoins is narrowing rather than broadening into a full altcoin expansion.

The altcoin season index is based on the share of the top 100 altcoins by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins, that outperformed Bitcoin over the past 90 days. Its yearly high was 64 on Sept. 27, 2026, and its yearly low was 14 on Dec. 19, 2025.

Bitcoin dominance was 59.9%, up from 59.2% a week earlier. Other altcoins accounted for 29.1%, down from 29.5%, while Ethereum dominance fell to 10.9% from 11.3%.

Bitcoin’s market capitalization was about $1.67 trillion, with 24-hour trading volume at $32.57 billion. The combined altcoin market capitalization was about $1.15 trillion, while 24-hour altcoin trading volume stood at $62.60 billion.

Bitcoin traded at $83,428, up 0.25% over the previous 24 hours. Its 90-day cumulative return was 29.11%.
