U.S. stock indexes were seeking direction Tuesday as technology shares faced renewed selling pressure and investors processed quarterly results from major banks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2% at 9:56 a.m. ET (13:56 UTC) on Oct. 13. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were also seeking direction.

Bank earnings were among the market’s key focuses as investors worked through the latest quarterly results. Technology shares remained under pressure, adding another source of uncertainty to the session.

The trading followed Monday’s mixed close, when rising oil prices and weakness in semiconductor stocks shaped the market ahead of bank earnings and inflation data.
