Top-trader futures positioning is often used as a gauge of crypto market sentiment because it tracks accounts with higher margin balances and more active risk management. Still, some futures positions may be used to hedge spot exposure, so the figures require additional interpretation. CoinGlass defines top traders as investors in the top 20% by margin balance. Dollar-margined markets are often used for lower-volatility trading and hedging, while coin-margined markets are more closely associated with investors seeking leveraged exposure to crypto assets.
