Duke Energy and The Southern Company received A+ profitability grades in a utilities ranking published Oct. 14, as investors assess earnings resilience and power-sector performance during the third-quarter earnings season.

Clearway Energy, Edison International, Talen Energy and Vistra Corp. each received an A grade. The companies represented regulated utilities, renewable power providers and independent power producers.

The grades assess gross, operating and net profit margins, returns on equity and assets, and efficiency measures in comparison with industry peers.
