Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO, praised Micron’s approach to future memory pricing on Oct. 13, as 26 customer agreements were expected to represent more than 35% of the company’s revenue through 2030.

He posted his comment on X in response to a post about memory pricing. “Micron has been reasonable regarding future memory prices, while others have been extortionate,” Musk wrote. He added that customers would remember the difference and that Micron’s approach supported long-term loyalty.

Micron has signed 26 customer agreements estimated to account for more than 35% of revenue through 2030. Price bands that set upper and lower limits cover about three-quarters of the agreements’ expected revenue; the rest is negotiated at market rates. Customers have committed $32 billion, mostly in cash deposits.

Micron’s contracted backlog stood at $150 billion, and more than 75% of its fiscal 2027 output had been sold. The agreements provide some pricing structure, but memory remains a cyclical business. DRAM prices were projected to rise 43% in 2027 before falling 53% in 2028, while shortages were expected to continue through 2028.

Memory and storage supply and demand are expected to be tighter in calendar 2027 and 2028 than in 2026. Micron’s fiscal 2026 revenue rose 256% to about $133 billion. DRAM selling prices increased about 180% that year, while shipped volume grew in the mid-20% range.
