Bitcoin (BTC) users paid an estimated $20.96 million in transaction fees in the third quarter of 2026, while the amount collected in BTC peaked in August before falling in September.

Monthly fees totaled 94.1523 BTC in July and 98.4015 BTC in August. They then declined to 87.5343 BTC in September, below both earlier monthly totals. The quarter’s dollar estimate and these monthly figures express fees in different units.

Transaction fees are paid to miners who include transactions in Bitcoin blocks. The fee measure excludes newly issued coins, counting transaction fees rather than those new coins.

The fee on a transfer reflects its data size and competition for block space, not the amount of bitcoin moved. Aggregate fees can provide a limited gauge of demand for block space, but they do not show how many users or transactions the network handled. The monthly fee totals therefore describe fees collected, not a count of network users or transfers.
