CrowdStrike led gains in a 32-stock portfolio over the five weeks through Oct. 14, while BNY posted the steepest loss, underscoring a sharp divide within the selected holdings.

From the portfolio’s Sept. 10 meeting through the Oct. 14 close, CrowdStrike topped the portfolio at 19.4%, followed by Meta Platforms at 14.4% and TJX Companies at 13%. On the downside, BNY fell 15.4%, Goldman Sachs dropped 13.8% and FedEx Freight declined 12.4%.

The portfolio’s performance differed from broader U.S. market benchmarks. From the Sept. 10 close to the Oct. 14 close, the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.3%, from 26,081.72 to 26,692.87. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.9%, from 52,064.10 to 51,621.48. CrowdStrike’s gain exceeded the Nasdaq’s rise by 17.1 percentage points, while BNY’s decline was 14.5 percentage points steeper than the Dow’s.

The ranking covers the 32 stocks in the portfolio; it is not a list of the best- and worst-performing U.S. stocks overall. The gains included companies in cybersecurity, social media and off-price retail. Financial services and freight companies were among the largest decliners.

Economic releases also fell within the five-week period. On Sept. 16, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) raised the federal funds target range by 0.25 percentage point to 3.75% to 4%. The decision came at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC). September’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), released Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC), rose 0.6% from August on a seasonally adjusted basis and 3.7% over 12 months.
