Bitcoin (BTC) briefly fell below $80,000 on Oct. 15 as traders assessed a sharp rise in U.S. producer prices and weakness in AI-linked stocks; Ether (ETH) also dropped below $2,400.

BTC touched about $79,676 at 9:55 a.m. ET (13:55 UTC), then recovered to about $80,527 by 10:08 a.m. ET (14:08 UTC), remaining down 2.1% over 24 hours. ETH traded near $2,356 at that time, down 3.6% over 24 hours.

The September Producer Price Index for final demand rose 1.3% from August and 6.3% from a year earlier. The monthly increase exceeded the 0.6% market expectation and was the largest in more than four years.

Crypto futures positions worth about $950 million were liquidated over the 24 hours through 10:15 a.m. ET (14:15 UTC), with leveraged long positions facing another day of forced closures. CoreWeave fell in premarket trading, and the Nasdaq opened down more than 1%.

The Federal Reserve’s Oct. 28 policy decision is the next key date for crypto markets.
