Papertrade Ties 1,000x Leverage to a Pool Funded by Trader Losses

Unpaid winning positions can enter a queue as later losses replenish funds, while eligible losses mint PAPER and support conditional USDC distributions to stakers.

Papertrade’s synthetic trading venue pairs up to 1,000x leverage with a pool funded by traders’ realized losses, making the pool’s ability to pay winners a central part of the product.

Trading opened Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. ET (14:00 UTC). Papertrade’s synthetic positions settle against its own liquidity pool and use the midpoint of Hyperliquid’s best bid and offer as a reference price. They do not open perpetual positions on Hyperliquid itself, and execution is subject to open-interest safety caps.

At maximum leverage, a 0.1% move against a position matches its initial margin in a simple notional calculation. Maintenance requirements or other trading mechanics can trigger liquidation sooner.

The pool began at zero, separate from user deposits, under Papertrade’s launch plan. It grows through traders’ realized losses. If funds are insufficient to cover a winning position, the unpaid amount enters a queue and waits for later losses to replenish the pool. That means a winning position’s full amount may not be available immediately.

Realized losses also mint PAPER. The initial rate was 100 PAPER per $1 of eligible loss basis while the tracked pool value was below $2 million, with the rate declining as the pool grows. At launch, users could stake or unstake PAPER but could not transfer it between wallets. Loss-linked issuance gives traders a token reward through the same activity that helps fund winning positions. The connection between losses and token issuance also featured in Papertrade’s first-hour trading results.

Staked PAPER can receive USDC distributions tied to pool conditions. Stakers can receive a 1% share of realized profit and loss when the pool can cover the payment and no payouts are queued. Gains above the $5 million tracked-pool cap can also be distributed to stakers. The distributions are conditional rather than a fixed rate.

The fee model has no conventional notional swap fee, spread or funding cost, while profitable closes face an asymmetric impact haircut. The design puts pool liquidity alongside leverage: losses feed both payout capacity and token issuance, while the queue delays any shortfall until later losses arrive.
