Bitcoin options OI falls to $38.14 billion as $80,000 put leads trading
Bitcoin options open interest fell 0.93% to $38.14 billion. Calls remained dominant, but the $80,000 put was the most-traded contract.

Bitcoin options open interest stood at $38.14 billion, down 0.93%. Calls led both open interest and trading volume, while put options featured prominently among the most-traded contracts.
The Bitcoin options market maintained a call-heavy tilt across medium- and short-term positioning. However, activity among the leading contracts also showed demand for downside protection.
As of Oct. 16, Bitcoin options open interest totaled $38.14 billion, down 0.93% from $38.50 billion previously. Options trading volume reached about $3.90 billion.
Calls accounted for 60.15% of open interest, compared with 39.85% for puts. By trading volume, calls represented 51.56% and puts 48.44%.
The clear call lead in open interest indicated that medium-term positioning was more heavily aligned with the upside. Calls also led trading volume, but the narrower margin suggested that near-term caution remained.

The largest open-interest contracts were the $95,000 call, the $90,000 call and the $100,000 call, all expiring Oct. 30 on Deribit.
The most-traded contracts were the $80,000 put, the $85,000 call and the $79,000 put, all expiring Oct. 30 on Deribit.
[Editor’s note] Options are derivatives that investors can use to make leveraged bets on changes in an underlying asset’s price or hedge existing positions. A call grants the right to buy the asset at a predetermined price, while a put grants the right to sell it. Open interest measures the total number of outstanding options contracts and indicates the cumulative scale of market positioning.
Call-put shares and changes in open interest and volume can help distinguish medium-term position building from short-term responses. Rising open interest generally signals new positioning, while a high put share in trading can indicate demand for protection against near-term declines or volatility.
