Onshore Oil Stocks Hit Their Lowest Level Since at Least 2016
Onshore inventories fell 113 million barrels in September as oil at sea rose by 103 million barrels. Observed global stocks declined by 10 million barrels overall.

Global onshore oil inventories fell 113 million barrels in September to their lowest level since at least 2016, while the smaller net decline leaves any inflation relief for Bitcoin (BTC) uncertain.
The onshore draw was largely offset by a 103 million-barrel increase in oil on water. Combining both categories, observed global inventories declined by 10 million barrels during September. At the end of the month, stocks stood 509 million barrels below pre-war levels.
The monthly net change and the month-end gap are different measures. The 10 million-barrel figure reflects the change across observed inventories in September; the 509 million-barrel figure compares the month-end level with the pre-war baseline. The 113 million-barrel decline applies to onshore stocks alone, not the global total.
Gulf crude exports rose by 4.4 million barrels per day to 13.9 million barrels per day in September, more than 75% of pre-war levels. The increase in shipments coincided with the rise in oil at sea, leaving much of the monthly onshore draw offset in the global inventory count.
Record tanker rates raised crude delivery costs and squeezed refinery margins in Europe and Asia. Those costs limited how quickly higher exports could ease prices downstream.
In the United States, retail on-highway diesel averaged $6.179 per gallon for the week ended Oct. 12, down 2 cents from the prior week, which ended Oct. 5. This weekly retail fuel-price reading is separate from the September global inventory totals, which measure oil volumes on land and at sea.
The connection to Bitcoin remains conditional. Lower oil and fuel costs would need to ease inflation pressure before financing conditions improved, and the September inventory figures do not establish that either step will happen. They also do not establish what the Federal Reserve will decide or indicate which direction BTC will move.
