Bitcoin (BTC) was 3.2% below its Oct. 1 opening price in a mid-October reading, putting it 9.9 percentage points behind the historical average, with trendline support near $80,400.

The reading put Bitcoin at $80,867, compared with an Oct. 1 open of $83,576. The historical average gain around mid-October was 6.7% across the years from 2013 through 2025.

The historical median gain at mid-October was 3.8%. Across full months, Bitcoin finished higher in 10 of those 13 Octobers, with an average return of 19.1%. Results ranged from a 53.8% gain in October 2013 to an 11.6% loss in October 2014.

Bitcoin’s path through mid-October most resembled 2022, when it ended the month 5.9% above its Oct. 1 level. Other years finished differently: Bitcoin gained 27.9% by the Oct. 31 open in 2023, while October 2018 ended about 4.7% lower.

Bitcoin broke below a rising four-hour wedge on Oct. 7. Trendline support sat near $80,400. A confirmed four-hour break below that level could bring prior consolidation areas near $77,000, $73,500, $70,000 and $64,000 into view.

The September Consumer Price Index report was released Oct. 14. Consumer prices were up 3.7% over 12 months, while core prices rose 0.3% from August.

“I fear we are range bound,” said Stephen Wundke, strategy and revenue director at Algoz.
