U.S. stock indexes moved in different directions as trading began Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 higher and the Nasdaq Composite lower.

The Dow rose 0.34% at the open. The S&P 500 gained 0.22%, while the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.16%.
