Aptos Labs announced Oct. 15 that Block-STM v2 was the default on the Aptos mainnet. The announcement preceded the Oct. 16 advance, but the sequence of events does not identify what drove the price move.
Aptos Core incorporated the setting on June 22, and it later appeared in the v1.49.1 mainnet release dated Sept. 23. The update was covered in earlier release coverage. Aptos rolls out node releases to validators in stages, beginning with 1% of stake; this process does not confirm that every validator had upgraded.
Block-STM allows transactions to run in parallel, then validates their results and repeats transactions when validation fails. The v1.49.1 release record includes no mainnet benchmark for Block-STM v2, so the price change does not measure any throughput improvement.
