STRK Falls 9.48% as Holders Weigh Starknet Post-Quantum Layer 1 Research
The seven-day poll is nonbinding: a “yes” would begin research, not authorize a move away from Ethereum.

Starknet token (STRK) declined 9.48% in a 24-hour perpetual-market snapshot dated Oct. 17, as holders considered a seven-day poll on researching an independent post-quantum Layer 1.
The market showed STRK at $0.0713, with 24-hour volume of 84.9 million STRK, or $6.3 million. Open interest stood at 18.8 million STRK, or $1.3 million. The figures cover the STRK/USD perpetual market.
Posted Oct. 15, the poll asks STRK holders whether Starknet should investigate an independent Layer 1 for post-quantum security. It is intended to gauge support for research, not to make a network change. A favorable result would start that work and lead to additional proposals and polls. A negative result would keep post-quantum development within Starknet’s existing Layer 2 framework.
The vote does not approve a move away from Ethereum, and the proposal sets no migration timeline. No formal decision or plan for an independent Layer 1 had been published by Oct. 13.
Starknet currently operates as an Ethereum Layer 2 and depends on Ethereum-related data availability. Becoming an independent Layer 1 could remove that dependency, but Starknet would need to operate its own validators and provide data availability.
Under either option, STRK would remain the network’s token and Ethereum-to-Starknet bridges would stay open. Its scheduled seven-day run makes the next step a vote on whether to pursue research, not a decision on the network’s future architecture.
