Iran’s navy said tanker damage near the Strait of Hormuz is rising, raising crude-supply risks that could reach broader financial markets, with potential consequences for crypto.

On Oct. 17, a tanker caught fire in the Gulf of Oman and lost the ability to sail. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said two supertankers struck mines and exploded in the Strait of Hormuz that day. One of the vessels carried more than 2 million barrels of crude oil.

The incidents involve two separate waterways named in the claims: the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz. A disabled tanker and a reported explosion involving a large crude cargo underscore why shipping incidents matter to supply risk. The claims do not identify any crypto asset or exchange as directly affected, leaving the connection to digital assets at the broader-market level.
