XRP reserves at exchange addresses totaled 11.81 billion XRP on Saturday, Oct. 17, while Binance's XRP derivatives open interest fell 15.8%, putting elevated exchange balances alongside a pullback in open positions.

The reserve reading ranked in the 99th percentile of the prior 365 days. Binance open interest was $453 million on Oct. 17, down from $538.1 million on Oct. 4. The figures cover different measures: the reserve balance counts XRP held at exchange addresses, while open interest tracks positions in Binance's XRP derivatives market.

Binance recorded $25.7 million in XRP long liquidations over Oct. 7-8. That was the largest two-day cluster in the prior two weeks. XRP fell 15%, from $1.52 to $1.29, during the period covered by the analysis.

Exchange reserves can indicate how many tokens may be available to trade, but the balance does not show that holders intend to sell. Historical XRP reserve figures can also change as exchange wallet addresses are identified and validated.

“For now, the clearest reading is that leverage has reset faster than exchange supply has,” CryptoOnchain wrote. The figures follow earlier exchange-level tracking of XRP reserves at Binance, Upbit and Bithumb.
