Medium-term positioning and short-term trading in the Ether options market both leaned toward upside exposure, with calls accounting for the larger share.
As of Oct. 19, Ether options open interest totaled $5.94 billion, up 1.49% from $5.85 billion the previous day. Options trading volume stood at $996.87 million.

Call dominance in both measures indicated an upside bias across medium-term positions and short-term activity, although the volume split was narrower than the open-interest split.

The largest open-interest contracts were the Deribit $3,200 call expiring Dec. 25, 2026; the Deribit $2,200 call expiring Dec. 25, 2026; and the Deribit $2,600 call expiring Oct. 30, 2026.

Editor’s note: Options are derivatives used to take leveraged positions on an underlying asset’s price or hedge existing exposure. A call gives the holder the right to buy the asset at a predetermined price, while a put gives the right to sell it. Open interest measures the total number of outstanding options contracts.
Call and put shares, along with changes in open interest and volume, can help distinguish medium-term positioning from short-term trading. Rising open interest indicates growth in outstanding positions, while differences between open-interest and volume composition can reflect simultaneous directional and hedging demand.
