Papertrade Distributed $54.1 Million to Stakers as Traders Lost $63.2 Million

At a snapshot 212 hours after trading opened, distributions equaled about 86% of net trader losses. That ratio does not measure what any individual trader received.

Papertrade distributed $54.1 million in USD Coin (USDC) to stakers while traders lost a net $63.2 million, showing the scale of rewards generated alongside trading losses.

The figures were measured at 6 a.m. ET (10:00 UTC) Oct. 19, 212 hours after trading opened. Distributions amounted to about 86% of net trader losses. That percentage compares totals across the platform; it does not mean a trader who lost money received 86% back.

Papertrade allocates each USDC distribution in proportion to the PAPER staked at that moment. Holding PAPER without staking it does not earn a distribution. The aggregate figures also cannot show whether a particular losing trader staked PAPER or recovered any losses.

Papertrade offers synthetic perpetual positions on Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) with leverage of up to 1,000 times. It uses Hyperliquid prices, but its own liquidity pool takes the other side of trades. Eligible losing trades generate PAPER, which users can stake for USDC distributions.

Cumulative notional volume reached about $1.361 trillion by the snapshot, a measure of trade size rather than cash lost. Roughly 23,000 addresses had deposited about $335 million. Losing positions closed with about $249 million in losses, much of which went toward paying winning positions. Net trader losses stood at $63.2 million.

The largest 1,000 PAPER wallets held 88% of the token supply and accounted for 91% of staking distributions. They also accounted for 81% of losses recorded among losing wallets. The overlap does not establish how much any individual trader recovered.

Eligible surplus in Papertrade’s pool funds distributions to stakers. The pool also pays winning trades. If it cannot pay a winner in full, the unpaid profit enters a queue until later trading losses replenish the pool.

Papertrade has ruled out transfers of PAPER outside its contracts for now. Paragon later halted its para:PAPER perpetual market at 6:31 p.m. ET (22:31 UTC) Oct. 19 and settled open positions at $0.026296. That settlement figure is a historical derivative price, not a current spot price for PAPER.
