3M Company (MMM) closed below its 20-, 50- and 200-session daily exponential moving averages on Oct. 19, before Amazon-related news and a higher 2026 earnings outlook reached investors.

MMM finished the 4 p.m. ET (20:00 UTC) regular session at $162.01, down 1.66% from the previous close of $164.75. Shares opened at $164.85 and traded as low as $161.95, leaving the closing price 6 cents above the session low.

The 20-session average stood at $164.44, and the 50-session average was $166.57. Calculations of the 200-session average differed, at $162.17 and $163.46, but both placed it above Monday’s close.

At 4:55 p.m. ET (20:55 UTC), 3M disclosed an expanded Amazon data center relationship involving optical connectivity and other products. Shares rose 5.4% in after-hours trading following that announcement.

At 5:31 p.m. ET (21:31 UTC), 3M announced a collaboration with Genius Electronic Optical Co., Ltd. 3M expects to acquire approximately 4.7% of Genius Electronic Optical’s common shares, subject to closing conditions.

In its Oct. 20 earnings release at 6:30 a.m. ET (10:30 UTC), 3M put third-quarter sales at $6.6 billion and adjusted earnings at $2.50 a share. It raised its 2026 adjusted earnings outlook to $9.10 to $9.15 per share on an updated non-GAAP basis.

Monday’s closing price preceded all three company updates. Tuesday’s regular session was the first to follow the Amazon disclosure, the Genius Electronic Optical announcement and the earnings release.
