On Oct. 20, Bitcoin (BTC) was below a daily ascending trendline while its candle bodies remained above the 50-day simple moving average. Some candle wicks dipped through the average, and the daily Stochastic RSI had begun turning higher after reaching the bottom of its range.

On the four-hour chart, BTC was inside a wedge near the lower edge of an upper parallel channel, with price also holding near a rising channel. The four-hour Stochastic RSI was declining, and the RSI appeared close to slipping beneath a descending trendline. The four-hour indicators suggested a downside break was more likely, although the wedge had not broken in either direction.

On the weekly chart, BTC's broader trend remained upward pending another weekly close below the rising channel's lower boundary. The assessment used a weekly close, rather than a brief wick through support, as the condition for confirming a trend break.

The market backdrop in the assessment included hot inflation data, rising bond yields and oil prices, and a strong dollar, alongside weaker U.S. stocks. Wall Street was also taking profits in AI-linked trades.
