General Motors (GM) shares closed at $77.09 on Oct. 20, down 6.84% after its third-quarter results, extending a two-day decline despite higher revenue and adjusted earnings.

The stock finished the 4 p.m. ET (20:00 UTC) session below its Oct. 19 close of $82.75, which was down 1.44% that day. Shares had fallen more than 6% in premarket trading after GM released its results.

Monday’s close was above GM’s 20-session exponential moving average of $82.64 and below its 50-session exponential moving average of $83.09. The daily technical reading was neutral at that point. Tuesday’s close fell below both of those prior-session averages.

Third-quarter revenue rose 2.9% year over year to $50.015 billion. Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased 21.6% to $4.106 billion. Adjusted diluted earnings were $3.70 per share, compared with $2.80 in the prior-year quarter.

GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra cited “growing inflationary pressures” in her shareholder letter. For 2026, GM narrowed its adjusted EBIT forecast to $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion from $14 billion to $16 billion, keeping the midpoint at $15 billion. GM also lifted its adjusted automotive free cash flow outlook to a range of $11.5 billion to $12.5 billion and authorized a $20 billion share repurchase program.
