Vanguard’s Mid-Cap Index Fund increased its stake in Bitcoin (BTC) treasury company Strategy by 639,039 shares, bringing the holding’s value to $1.13 billion and expanding the fund’s exposure to the company.
The added shares were valued at $92.7 million. The fund now holds about 7.8 million Strategy shares, up 9% from its previous share count. The increase adds to a position that was already worth more than $1 billion.
The figures describe an equity stake in Strategy. They do not represent Bitcoin purchased by the fund. Strategy holds Bitcoin as a treasury asset, making its shares a way for the fund to hold stock in a company tied to the cryptocurrency.
The share increase and the value of the full stake measure different things. The 639,039 shares are the addition to the fund’s position, while the $1.13 billion figure covers all of its Strategy shares. The $92.7 million figure applies to the shares added.
