Call options accounted for the larger share of both Bitcoin options open interest and trading volume, with $95,000 calls leading both contract rankings.

Outstanding positions and 24-hour trading activity showed a shared preference for calls. The call share was higher in trading volume than in open interest.

As of 11:01 UTC on October 21, 2026, Bitcoin options open interest totaled $38.49 billion, up 1.57% from $37.90 billion in the previous reading. Options trading volume totaled approximately $5.78 billion.

Calls represented 59.08% of open interest, compared with 40.92% for puts. In 24-hour trading volume, calls accounted for 70.70% and puts for 29.30%.

The larger call share in open interest showed that outstanding contracts were weighted toward calls. Their still larger share of trading volume indicated that recent activity was more heavily concentrated in calls, although these proportions alone do not establish traders’ directional exposure.

[Editor’s note] Options are derivatives used to take leveraged exposure to an underlying asset’s price movements or hedge existing positions. Calls give holders the right to buy at a predetermined strike price, while puts give holders the right to sell. Open interest measures outstanding contracts and indicates the accumulated size of positions.

Call and put shares, together with changes in open interest and volume, help distinguish accumulated positioning from recent trading activity. Rising open interest indicates an increase in outstanding contracts, but does not by itself establish a bullish outlook. Options may also form part of hedges or strategies involving multiple contracts.
