A large trader had about $4.99 million in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) short positions forcibly closed Oct. 21, leaving an $18.38 million BTC short near another liquidation threshold in the observed snapshot.

The forced trades closed 55.19 BTC and 153.19 ETH, equal to 20% of each position before liquidation. Together, they produced a realized trading loss of about $46,500, plus roughly $1,398 in fees.

Afterward, the trader held short positions of 220.74 BTC, worth about $18.38 million, and 612.76 ETH, worth about $1.5 million. The two remaining positions totaled about $19.88 million and carried unrealized losses of roughly $105,800 at the time of the observation.

BTC was priced at $83,281 in that snapshot, about $463, or 0.56%, below the identified liquidation level for the remaining BTC position. That short had an average entry price of $82,835.60 and an unrealized loss of about $98,300. The ETH short had an average entry price of $2,437.32, an unrealized loss of about $7,462 and a liquidation level of about $2,615.23.

A short position loses value when the asset’s price rises. The reported forced closures reduced both positions by one-fifth.
