Monero Futures Open Interest Reaches $325.77 Million in One Reading
A separate Oct. 20 daily close put open interest at $198 million, while another token-based tally reached 515,730 XMR.

Monero (XMR) futures open interest reached $325.77 million in one Oct. 21 reading, while a separate Oct. 20 close showed $198 million, underscoring how differently recent measures value outstanding positions.
The evening snapshot came at 7:50 p.m. ET (23:50 UTC), with XMR at $621.21, up 0.58% over the previous 24 hours. A separate Oct. 21 tally counted open interest in XMR and put it at 515,730, a five-week high, compared with roughly 400,000 a week earlier.
The close-based series recorded about 329,000 XMR in open interest on Oct. 20, versus about 402,000 on Sept. 2. Its dollar measure stood at $198 million that day, the fifth-highest daily close in the preceding year, but below the $208.8 million close on Sept. 5.
Dollar and token counts express outstanding positions in different units, and these readings come from separate dates. They do not provide a synchronized comparison of the market. A five-day measure of XMR-denominated futures open interest rose about 22% through Oct. 20, while XMR gained about 9% over the same span.
Open interest counts futures contracts that remain open. Trading volume counts contracts traded during a period. Each open contract has a buyer and a seller, so the total measures outstanding positions without showing whether the market is net bullish or bearish.
Doctor Profit posted on Oct. 21, “I Smell a very big Liquidation Event on XMR.” An exchange can forcibly close a futures position if its collateral drops below maintenance requirements. Open interest alone does not show that such a threshold is near or establish that a liquidation event is imminent.
