Dow Opens 0.26% Higher as Nasdaq and S&P 500 Edge Lower

U.S. stocks began trading mixed on Oct. 21, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.26% and the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 each down 0.05%.

The Dow's opening gain left it 0.31 percentage point ahead of each of the two declining indexes.
