The First Trust California Municipal High Income ETF (FCAL) set its October distribution at $0.1450 per share, matching September’s payout, with payment scheduled for Oct. 30.

Oct. 21 was both the ex-dividend date and the record date for the distribution. The fund’s previous $0.1450-per-share payout was payable Sept. 30.

FCAL’s main goal is to generate income free of regular federal and California income taxes; it also aims for long-term capital growth. In typical markets, municipal debt whose interest is exempt from those taxes must account for at least 80% of its net assets.

The fund classifies the payout as an ordinary distribution. This category can cover short-term gains the fund realized or a return of capital; the final tax treatment for the year’s payments is set after year-end.
