ETF analyst Eric Balchunas expects the U.S. market may view Federal Reserve purchases of stock ETFs through the Treasury as routine within five to 10 years, a shift he links to China and Japan.

Balchunas said he made the forecast earlier this year, predicting that the Fed would eventually buy stock ETFs through the Treasury. He said China and Japan are helping make the approach more common, and put the possible shift in U.S. market sentiment within a five-to-10-year window.
