Flows into U.S. spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds have moved alongside major price swings since their January 2024 launch, suggesting the flows have been more confirmatory than predictive.

Across 694 trading sessions, Bitcoin fell by at least 15% in eight periods. ETF flows were net negative in seven of them. In each of nine periods when Bitcoin gained at least 15%, the funds recorded net inflows.

The pattern shows flows tending to move in the same direction as large price changes. It does not show them consistently signaling those moves in advance.
