Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Close Higher on Oct. 22; Ackman Urges 2027 Conservatorship Exit
Fannie Mae rose 12.57% to $4.21 and Freddie Mac gained 14.83% to $3.95 at the regular-session close.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac shares closed higher Oct. 22, when Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman urged the Trump administration to target 2027 for ending their federal conservatorships.
Fannie Mae (FNMA) finished at $4.21, up 12.57%. Freddie Mac (FMCC) rose 14.83% to $3.95. Both prices are for the regular-session close at 4 p.m. ET (2000 UTC). Fannie Mae traded between $3.63 and $4.58 on 14.75 million shares. Freddie Mac ranged from $3.30 to $4.34 on 9.29 million shares.
Ackman called ending federal control politically critical and urged officials to begin work after the new year, with a 2027 target.
Both companies have been under FHFA conservatorship since Sept. 6, 2008. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buy mortgages from lenders, then hold them or package them into mortgage-backed securities to help provide liquidity to the U.S. housing finance market.
