Ether (ETH) options showed a 14.1-point implied-volatility premium over the asset’s 30-day realized volatility in an Oct. 23 snapshot, putting options pricing above the movement recorded over the previous month.

At 5:53 a.m. ET (09:53 UTC), annualized 30-day at-the-money implied volatility was 47.9%, compared with 33.8% realized volatility. The difference between the readings was 14.1 volatility points.

The comparison pairs Ether options pricing with realized volatility calculated from USDT perpetual returns. It reflects that combination of venues and instruments. At-the-money options have strike prices near the underlying asset’s price.

The gap varied across daily readings from Sept. 29 through Oct. 23, ranging from 2.7 to 17.5 volatility points. The 14.1-point reading fell within that observed range.

Implied volatility is an annualized measure reflected in options prices. Realized volatility measures past price movement over the comparison period. Because the measures describe different things, their difference alone does not establish that options are mispriced or identify a catalyst for volatility.

Higher implied volatility generally means buyers pay more for options. Sellers receive the premium but face risk if realized volatility rises. The spread does not indicate which direction Ether may move.
