Onchain trading in tokenized stocks and ETFs topped $37 billion in the quarter, but the totals cover different products and are not directly comparable.

Hyperliquid recorded $201 billion in Q3 2026 trading volume for perpetual contracts linked to stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and equity indexes. The figure puts a quarterly measure on derivatives activity across markets that were not available on the platform a year earlier.

Perpetual contracts have no expiration date and track an underlying asset’s price. Traders can take long or short positions without owning the asset. The $201 billion measures derivatives trading, not the value of shares traders purchased or held.

Separately, onchain trading in tokenized stocks and ETFs exceeded $37 billion during Q3. Monthly volume reached nearly 18 times January’s level. The figures cover different products and market scopes, so they are not directly comparable.

Trading volume is counted once for each matched trade, rather than once for each side of the trade. That measure captures completed trading activity; it does not describe how many positions remain open.

Outside teams can deploy markets through Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 framework. Deployers define the market and its oracle, set leverage limits and operate it on the platform. The Q3 figure provides a period-specific measure alongside cumulative HIP-3 volume coverage.

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Sept. 17 order granted temporary, conditional relief to certain permissioned venues trading tokenized U.S. national market system stocks. Those venues must verify that tokenized stocks give holders the same rights and privileges as equivalent traditional stocks. The order addresses a separate product from Hyperliquid’s perpetual contracts.

Dune co-founder and CEO Fredrik Haga said, “But everything happening onchain is messy and needs context.”
