Solana (SOL) traded at $103.95 on Coinbase Pro at 5:15 p.m. ET Friday, after the Oct. 21-to-Oct. 22 close-to-close decline of 3.1%; the asset also recorded two earlier October lows near $100.

The $103.95 quote was a point-in-time observation, not the close for the Oct. 23 UTC candle. SOL’s Oct. 15 UTC candle reached $100.43 before closing at $105.34. On Oct. 18, the low was $100.32 and the close was $103.99. Both closes occurred at 8 p.m. ET on the dates shown.

On Oct. 21, SOL reached an intraday high of $109.13 and closed at $106.87. It closed at $103.53 on Oct. 22, a 3.1% decrease from the previous day’s close. Measuring from the Oct. 21 high to the Oct. 22 close produces a 5.1% drop because that comparison starts at an intraday high. The daily candles use UTC dates, with each listed close occurring at 8 p.m. ET.

Alpenglow became active on Solana’s mainnet Oct. 21. The upgrade replaces TowerBFT’s consensus process and changes how validators agree on the network’s state. Its design targets transaction finality in about 150 milliseconds, compared with roughly 12.8 seconds under TowerBFT. The 150-millisecond figure is a design target, not an average measured after activation.

Alpenglow changes consensus while leaving transaction execution, fees, the Solana Virtual Machine and transaction formats unchanged. Finality describes when a transaction is treated as settled; it is separate from block production. Solana’s reduction in slot time from 400 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds was a separate change.

The timing of the price decline does not establish that Alpenglow caused it. The two October lows were followed by higher closes on their respective dates, making $100 a reference from those sessions rather than a demonstrated lasting floor. Earlier coverage detailed Alpenglow’s activation and SOL’s October decline.
