Monero (XMR) futures open interest exceeded $300 million in figures published Oct. 23, while XMR-denominated open interest reached 515,730 XMR, a five-week high. That measure was about 400,000 XMR a week earlier, marking a rise in outstanding futures exposure.

Open interest counts positions that remain open. It differs from trading volume, which counts contracts traded during a period, and does not show whether traders are net bullish or bearish.

The January market move offers a comparison for the latest figures. Monero reached about $790 that month, then fell 66% over the next 20 days and dropped below $300 by early February. Long positions were forcibly liquidated during the decline.
