Bitcoin (BTC) UTXO Spending Tops $21 Billion in Largest 2026 Burst
The activity involved more than 230,000 BTC, and most of the coins had been inactive for one to six months.

Bitcoin (BTC) UTXO spending topped $21 billion on Oct. 23 in the year's largest burst, involving more than 230,000 BTC, though the activity alone does not confirm a sale.
Some of the activity involved UTXOs individually valued above $1 million. Most of the associated BTC had been inactive for one to six months; about $4.6 billion came from coins held for one to three years.
Analyst Darkfost assessed that a single entity likely moved the assets between addresses rather than selling them. Darkfost pointed to the absence of a comparable rise in exchange-related UTXO spending and said the impact would depend on where the coins move next.
UTXO means unspent transaction output. It is a discrete transaction output created earlier that remains available to be spent. A transaction can consume an earlier output and create new outputs for later transactions. Spending those outputs records an on-chain movement, but does not by itself show whether the Bitcoin was sold.
