Arthur Hayes, BitMEX co-founder, said he closed all of Maelstrom’s directional trading positions and took profits on several tokens, saying the market may fall before recovering as macroeconomic and geopolitical risks persist.

Hayes named ETH, ENA, UNI and other altcoins as assets on which he took profits. He said he would stay temporarily on the sidelines while waiting for clearer signs that the risks have eased.

In earlier comments, Hayes described Maelstrom’s altcoin trades as a way to fund additional Bitcoin (BTC) purchases.

Separately, a Hayes-linked wallet transferred 8,000 ETH on Oct. 24. Binance, Galaxy Digital and FalconX each received 1,600 ETH, for 4,800 ETH combined. The transfers do not confirm that the ETH was sold.
