Swiss large-cap stocks are outperforming euro-zone shares in October as AI concerns unsettle markets, widening the Swiss Market Index (SMI)’s lead over the Euro Stoxx 50 to 7.8 percentage points.

The SMI has gained 4.6% this month, while the Euro Stoxx 50 has declined 3.2%. The SMI tracks 20 of Switzerland’s largest and most liquid stocks.

The SMI’s relative performance has not been this strong since March 2020, when the pandemic shock also sent investors seeking safer holdings. Defensive Swiss large-cap stocks have drawn investors looking for safety amid the market turbulence.
