Bitcoin’s resilience around $81,000 amid wider financial-market uncertainty has put institutional adoption and technology development in focus as measures of the recovery’s strength.

In an October 24 interview with Bitcoin Magazine, Peter Bain, chief marketing officer of Blockstream, described Bitcoin’s ability to hold that level as encouraging against a backdrop of equity-market moves, changes in the US 10-year Treasury yield and political unrest in Europe.

Bain said adoption and infrastructure development were advancing even though those changes were not yet fully reflected in Bitcoin’s price. He also cited feedback from institutional clients as a reason for his confidence in the market.

Blockstream has established Blockstream Consulting Services to help institutions adopt Bitcoin. Bain said some conservative clients preferred a gradual approach, with support spanning an understanding of the technology, infrastructure development and implementation.

The company’s European operations hub in Lugano reflects Switzerland’s appeal as a base for those services. Bain pointed to clear treatment of digital assets, particularly Bitcoin, alongside the country’s extensive wealth-management and banking infrastructure.

On security, Bain said advances in AI were forcing businesses to reconsider how they develop and deploy software. Vulnerability discovery affects banking and websites as well as Bitcoin, he said. Blockstream is using frontier AI models within its own testing systems and working with the wider community to strengthen network security.

He described a substantial shift across cybersecurity in recent months, saying businesses would need to reassess their development and deployment practices and invest further in security.

Bain nevertheless put the threat of quantum computers breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography at least decades away, citing hardware limitations rather than software or mathematics. He said Blockstream’s research department was contributing through work on signature schemes and published white papers.

Any response to quantum risks would also require Bitcoin’s consensus process, he said. Blockstream belongs to the Bitcoin Security Consortium, whose members include institutions around the world. Bain said competing proposals needed thorough evaluation and expected a rapid industry response if quantum computing became an imminent threat.

Asked about recovery from the Liquid network incident, Bain said its swap service had resumed earlier that week. Users could again move Bitcoin from Liquid to the main chain, restoring operation for individual holders. Further upgrades and security improvements were still needed to return the network fully to its previous condition, he said.

Asked for an outlook through the end of the year and into 2027, Bain declined to give a specific price forecast. He reiterated that Bitcoin’s resilience around $81,000–$81,500 and feedback from institutional customers underpinned his confidence.
