The South Korean won strengthened as USD/KRW closed at 1,323.1 won per dollar, down 1.5 won from the previous session and at its lowest level this year. The rate was 15.0% below the year's high of 1,555.8.

The lower dollar-won rate put the won at its strongest closing level of the year.

Bank of Korea published rates for October 26 showed USD/KRW opening at 1,324.0, down 0.6 won from the previous close of 1,324.6. It closed at 1,323.1, a further decline of 0.9 won during the session.

The close matched the year's low of 1,323.1, against a high of 1,555.8 on July 2. It was also 100.9 won below the July 31 rate of 1,424.0, reflecting a stronger won.

The comparison with a year earlier also illustrates the won's appreciation. Converting 1 million won into dollars at the October 24, 2025 rate of 1,437.1 would have yielded about $695.85. Converting that amount back at 1,323.1 would return about 920,674 won, a decline of 79,326 won, or 7.9%, in won terms.

The same day's exchange rates were 198.42 won per Chinese yuan and 843 won per 100 Japanese yen.
