January 2027 Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures settled at $12.525 a bushel on Oct. 26, down 16 cents, or 1.26%, from Friday. The contract reached $12.39 during the session.

The settlement followed Brazil’s Oct. 25 presidential runoff. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won reelection with 51.79% of valid votes, while Flávio Bolsonaro received 48.21%.

At noon ET (1600 UTC) Oct. 26, Brazil’s PTAX reference rate put the dollar’s selling price at R$5.5007. The quote was R$5.0377 on Oct. 23, an increase of about 9.19% in the dollar’s price in reais. That is a change in the dollar quote, not a 9.19% decline in the real. The PTAX quote and soybean futures settlement are different market measures.

Brazilian stock-index futures also hit their downside limit after Lula’s win in a separate market move.
