Yemeni Armed Forces say a drone strike at Abha International Airport disrupted air traffic in southwestern Saudi Arabia, putting the kingdom’s aviation security in focus amid regional hostilities.

Abha is in the Asir region and is operated by Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities had not independently confirmed the specific claim. The announcement did not identify how long air traffic was disrupted or say Saudi airspace had been closed.

Prediction-market contracts on a Saudi airspace closure carried odds of 1.6% for Nov. 1 and 18.5% for Jan. 1, 2027. Their 24-hour trading volumes were $6,000 for the November contract and $25 for January. The odds describe contract pricing and do not establish that any closure is in effect. Trading volume was much higher for the nearer deadline.

The claim comes amid ongoing hostilities involving the Iran-aligned Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. Previous Houthi attacks on Saudi airports have involved drones and missiles. Official updates from the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS) are indicators to watch for any airspace closure.
